When What
---- ----

Nov 07, 2005 Finalization of Why conversion is a really, really bad idea.
Nov 06, 2005 Update of various pages for VS model and family information
Nov 05, 2005 Update of table of VS Models page and the text version to reflect the New VS, which may ultimately
be called the "VS22000".
Update of the VS Models tables and the VS Family Portrait to reflect the New
VS (VS22000).
Minor update of Prescription for the VS.
Sep 03 2005 Completed significant update of the VS FAQ page.
Completed update of the Wang VS Conversion page, subtitled Straight Talk about Life After Wang. Added a set of questions VS sites should ask conversion vendors before committing to conversion of their VS applications to some other platform.
Jul 29, 2005 Completed update of Prescription for the VS with annotation,
preserving the original recommendations for reference.
Feb-Jul 2005 Various updates
Feb 13, 2005 Revised the "CLICK HERE FOR HELP FIGURING OUT OPTIONS FOR
WANG® VS™ CONVERSIONS!" material linked from the front
page to reflect the New VS.
Jul 28, 2004 Added news bulletin in News page. Something big is in the works.
Made minor fixups to links in older news stories.
Jan 09, 2004 Site maintenance. Fixed 40+ broken non-JavaScript mail links.
Nov 29, 2003 Site maintenance. Addition of item to front page soliciting
recontact from people whose email addresses may have been
lost here between Aug 14 and Oct 10, 2003.
Mar 29, 2003 Site maintenance. Many pages updated, mostly changes not
visible to visitors.
Mar 18, 2003 Site maintenance. Cleanup of the front page.
Nov 13, 2002 Updated the COBOL ReSource page and FAQ, adding links to
the Data Sheet and zipped PDF manuals. I hope to be able
to make available the straight PDF manuals soon.
Oct 11, 2002 Temporarily removed some recent comments from the News and
Prescription pages in the wake of some negative comments
received indirectly from Getronics.
I'm a businessman, not a journalist, so I don't have a
problem reevaluating what I say on the Website in the
context of business I may do with the company whose
products are the subject of my Website. Of course, if
the business doesn't materialize I would have to
reevaluate the reevaluation.
Aug 18, 2002 Removed the "Polls" link in bar at the top of right-side
frames, moved the "Wang VS Forum" link to the left side,
now titled merely "Forums," and standardized it in all
pages.
Jul 30, 2002 New material is in the Raid, Removables and VS Wanted!
pages, and the Forums have been live for several weeks
and now include Wang VS, COBOL ReSource, and VS Q&A.
See Site News for links to new material.
Jul 12, 2002 Significant changes to the new Forums page
through Spam-proofing of all pages in the site
Jul 16, 2002 (Spammers scan Web pages for email addresses and links
to other pages that might contain email addresses. We
now use WPoison, a server facility that serves up
endless pages of invalid email addresses and links to
more of the same. It is linked from an invisible
clickable link at the bottom right of our Web pages.
If you click on it it will not harm you but you may be
amused to see what it feeds to spammers.)
Jul 08, 2002 More cleanup of the Vendors page. I removed a number of
migration vendors because I'm not interested in helping
them make money taking people to MicroFocus/AcuCOBOL hell
and I don't want anyone to think that I endorse such
migrations.
Added a Wang Wanted page linked from the sidebar on the
front page.
Modifications to several of the other new pages linked from
the front page sidebar.
Jun 26, 2002 We now have our own Wang VS Forum and COBOL ReSource Forum
running here. There are public message boards that replace
the Wang VS Forum at Delphi. Delphi, never a reliable
service, began charging this morning for all but "Basic"
access, and "Basic" doesn't allow us to manage a Forum.
Coincidentally with charging visitors, Delphi introduced
a vast array of new bugs and malfunctions.
Jun 11, 2002 Major update to my Prescription for the VS
with more to follow
Notes in Site News
about unavailability of Mind-It and language translation services
shown on some of the pages here
May 07, 2002 News update - VS Installed Base Stabilized
Apr 17, 2002 Cleanup of the Vendors page, removal of inactive vendors
Jul 31, 2001 Cleaned up the Vendors page, removing broken links and
links to vendor sites that no longer mention the VS.
Added a "no news" editorial on the News page
Added some annotations on a few other pages due to
much of the information presented being seriously
out of step with the presently declining VS market.
Mar 06, 2001 Created the first brief info pages on COBOL ReSource,
RS/6000, RAID, disk and tape drives, removables,
and VS systems for sale.
There have been some recent additions to the Friend
Finder page.
I have been busy lately. The focus of my work is
shifting almost entirely to COBOL ReSource and RS/6000.
Feb 07, 2001 Updated various pages that had become dated and made
various minor corrections.
Added new information to the ABOUT WANG and ABOUT THE VS
pages and the BENCHMARKS page and Benchmark Project page.
The VS landscape is changing rapidly now.
Sep 24, 2000 Updated the Friend Finder / Wang Reunion page with recent
additions
Aug 15, 2000 The front and Thomas Junker consultancy pages have been
updated to reflect the imminent release of a new Website
that will feature products and services and will include
The Unofficial Wang VS Information Center as a subsite.
COBOL ReSource is here, and we are offering it as well as
migration services to go with it.
VS ODBC Server is in beta.
May 9, 2000 The Live VS Web Server pages have been updated somewhat.
May 8, 2000 It is probably noteworthy that there is a new, unreleased VS
CPU now running the Live VS Web Server. What little I can
reveal at present is to be found in the Site News page.
Also some recent techno-geek news about UPS facilities and
automatic shutdown.
Apr 19, 2000 Fixed an HTML error in the Buy/Sell/Trade page that prevented
display of most of the page in some browsers.
Apr 7, 2000 News of the release of VS Web Server as a free, Open Source
product (!!!).

difficult-to-find VS pages deep inside the Getronics
Website.
Dec 28, 1999 Added a news item about VS Web Server being ready for
release as version 1.00.
Added a site news item about IP address changes and
advice to retarget any IP-address URLs bookmarked for
any pages in the Live VS Web Server.
Dec 25, 1999 Added a translation service to each content page,
offering Spanish, German, French, Italian and
Portugese. Beware of asking for multiple successive
translations, as they present a risk of injury by laughter.
Nov 15, 1999 Added links to the new wangvs.com site operated by
GetronicsWang Co. on a VS. Links are in ABOUT WANG
and LINKS.
Minor corrections to several pages
Oct 18, 1999 ISDN has been back in operation for some time, and
the Live VS Web Server has been up most of the time
in recent weeks. It will probably be down most of
the coming weekend (Oct 30-31) while preparation of
the final release version is underway. The Web Server
Status page now reflects the available status of the
Server.
Oct 3, 1999 Added new page outlining services available from
Thomas Junker to VS sites worldwide, linked from
an annoying but small teaser on the main page
Aug 28, 1999 Added new material to the VS Benchmark Project page
I can now measure VS COBOL verb execution times.
Can you help me get measures of other plaftorms?
Aug 22, 1999 Added two short-term ebay auction items

Web Server. The Shareware page in the Unofficial Wang
VS Information Center contains links to the files on
the VS.
Jul 29, 1999 Added the prototype Wang VS Web Server Support Center
to the Beta page of the Live VS Web Server, replacing
it at port 8040 with a redirect page.
Added links in the Beta page and the Support Center
login page to a text file of demo userids and passwords.
The Support Center is an important demonstration of the
ability of VS CGI programs to exercise session control
and to dynamically build navigation menus from a database,
modified by a user's access level.
Checked and updated Wang links in the About Wang page.
Jul 12, 1999 Updated info on the About Wang page.
Jul 1, 1999 Updated the Vendors page.
Jun 15, 1999 An ISP failure blocked access to the Live VS Web Server for
over three hours this morning, from 0615 to 0930 CDT.
Updated the "FAQs" menu button to "INFO/BOOKS/FAQ" to reflect
the enlarged scope of that page.
Jun 12, 1999 Returned the Live VS Web Server to active duty after a
period of intensive development. Beta 4 is now on the
air.

languages and be entirely free of HTML, passing back net
values that are merged into HTML templates.

the explanation of Remote System Administration Facility
(RSAF) on VS5000/6000 to include mention that it also supports
powering the VS on and off. Try that with a PC server.
Sep 29, 1998 Added 25MB of large graphics to the live VS Web Server,
with thumbnails, mostly spectacular NASA shots of
Space Shuttle and other launches. These graphics are
stored in and served up by the VS.

Visitors without frames may now use a menu to navigate directly
to all top-level pages without being confronted by noframes
advisories. The Site Map is also offered to noframes visitors
but it is the one and only, most of the links invoking framesets.
Those framesets now all have correct noframes links, though, to
the actual pages, an extra click as the price for using the
intuitive graphic site map.

Updated the Vendors page.
Added Amazon.com links, and a number of book links in the
About Wang page. I'm now an Amazon.com Associate, so any
book purchases made through my links will help support
this Website without costing you anything over the
regular discounted price of any books you order.
Added a show-and-tell copy of my own LinkExchange banner
to the Site News page, along with instructions for those
who have too much time on their hands on how to add my
banner to their own Web sites should the wish to do so.
Also, over the last few days, I have made new submissions to
a number of Web search engines, with some results. For
reasons I don't yet understand, the engines don't seem to
like this Website and all except one had dropped it from
their databases. I discovered this after noticing that
the "referrer" pages for many visits were my older wangloc
and other pages, now obsolete but apparently still
catalogued or bookmarked somewhere.
May 18, 1998 Added the Articles page with links to my articles from Access
to Wang.
Added a LinkExchange banner (yuck!) to the Entrance page.
This in a desperate move to reach the larger part of the
VS community that has still not visited here. Maybe
some of them will perk up when they see my banner on
some model train site, or while tracing their family trees
on the Internet. Hey -- it could happen!
May 13, 1998 Added Genesis to Buy/Sell/Trade page, cleaned up the page
layout, alphabetized the resellers.
May 11, 1998 Added the new VS Shareware page. Nothing to download yet,
but the page is on the menu and in the site map, ready
for links to downloadable VS shareware.
Apr 25, 1998 Modified the Web Server Status page. It is now a static
page that provides a link to the VS, which has its own
IP address now. (!) New about this is on the Site News
page. In time the Web Server Status Page will dynamically
reflect the status of the server (On-Air / Off-Air) and
the server software available for live viewing.

what's new at the Website
