The most common upper management mistake is underestimating how much work the VS does for them and the mass of stable application code probably running on it. Not all migration projects succeed, by any means. I've seen one major migration from VS to Sun crash and burn at the very last stage, when virtually all the money had already been spent.

I would like to know why. I've seen this at customer after customer, and no one has *ever* been able to explain to me what the rationale is. I've even heard of upper management issuing a dictate not to do anything that would "make the Wang look good," clearly not a business decision.

The irritant that most easily rises to the top of organizations is the inability to work with VS data from desktops. Even brain dead and computer illiterate top management seems to understand the implications of WWW and ODBC connectivity, though. If you can walk one of the androids over to a terminal and pull up application data using nothing more than Netscape or MS IE Explorer on the desktop, their gut understands it even if their brain doesn't.

You're very welcome. Please check out the VS Web Server demo. There's a link to the server status page in the News section of my website. The demo is on the air most early mornings. There's also an email list that distributes daily announcements of on-air and off-air times.
