Some other thoughts... you might get in touch with DSSI in Honolulu. They were very active as a third party VS maintenance vendor five years ago [when the Wang dealer in Guam was not a viable source of maintenance] and I have heard from Bob a few times since, but not in the last six months. The last contact I have for them is:

Bob Vierck <dssi@aloha.net>

Tel: 808 591-2622

Fax: 808 591-2822

They might know of someone in your area or who might be interested in returning to Hawaii from somewhere else.

And just because I think six months is too short a term doesn't mean there aren't others who would find the opportunity very attractive, particularly if one of their goals is to spend some time in Hawaii or have the opportunity to set down roots there.

Bernard Mendis, the fellow working in Pohnpei at least as of last Fall, is a very sharp young man. He single-handedly learned the VS on a remote Pacific island and supported several government systems as the sole onsite software resource. If you have trouble reaching him by email (as I did recently) you could try phoning FSM Telecomm in Pohnpei, FSM. They have a website now, by the way, and you could pull a snail mail address from there and write, as an alternative. USPS serves Pohnpei for 32 cents, as I'm sure you probably know.

If I were you I would take a serious look at replacing your old VS with a newer, smaller, cheaper one, perhaps a VS6230, and upgrading to OS 7.53.xx for Year 2000 compliance. Many VS300 customers are doing exactly this, and many customers around the world, especially outside the U.S., are in no hurry to get rid of their VS systems.
